We were delighted to host our Biennial Careers Fair earlier this week. With huge support from parents and the local community, over 80 advisors from numerous business sectors turned out to give careers advice to girls from Year 9 to Year 13. 

Organised by our Parents’ Guild around a series of planets, students were asked to find the career habitat that fills them with life! Sectors included: Building and engineering, Power, Science & Research, Digital and Technology, People and Advising, Finance and Investing, Legal, Governing, Arts and Media, Medical, Wellbeing, Consumer & Commercial, and Marketing and Public Relations. 

“The NHEHS Careers Fair allows students to hear about the breadth of available careers and to gain a deeper understanding of jobs and the work that they might be interested in. Not knowing what you want to do is normal and the parents were able to share the journey they have taken to build their career and reassure pupils that it is not always a straight path,” said Rishi Patel, Parents Guild, Careers Committee Chair.  

“This amazing event with 80 advisors reflects the breadth of advice that we already provide for all our students, encompassing different paths that they might take,” said Miss Parr, Head of Careers. “This year we have found there is a growing demand for information about careers in the green and renewable energy sector. We have a number of alumnae and other members of the school community working in this sector who have been actively supporting our careers programme with talks, work experience and mentoring. Last year we co-hosted the GDST Sustainability Careers spotlight talk. This year our Careers Fair incorporated aspects of sustainability across many different fields, including engineering, economics and politics.”

Advisors included an artist, cinematographer, publisher, solicitors and barristers, numerous business founders and owners, filmmaker, managing directors, directors of business development, chief strategy officers, product managers and strategy consultants. Representing the medical industry there were surgeons, consultants, specialists and a GP and vet.

Advisors worked at an incredible number of sector-leading organisations, including Accenture, Amazon, Bank of America, Bank of England, Barclays Bank, BBC, BP, Compare the market, Goldman Sachs, Deloitte, Dentsu, Deutsche Bank, GlaxoSmithKline, Google, GSK, HarperCollins, Morgan Stanley, Uber.

One of our Year 12s said, “talking to people from different fields, like drama and economics, really helped me understand the wide range of career options linked to my A-level subjects. For example, through discussions, I discovered the role of producing in film and TV, which blends my interest in drama with business and behind-the-scenes work.
