Assembly by MP and Alumna Dr Rupa Huq
Lovely to welcome back alumna and MP for Ealing Central and Acton, Dr Rupa Huq this morning to give an assembly to senior school.
Rupa spoke about the life of an MP, raising important issues on behalf of constituents in parliament, campaigning, and working in the local community.
She then took questions from the audience. We heard that the most challenging part of her role as an MP is balancing and managing the demands of constituents and party alongside your own conscience. On why she decided to become an MP, Rupa shared how she had previously worked as a university lecturer, had lived in the area all her life and became a member of the Labour Party when the opportunity to stand for election came up in 2015. Rupa encouraged the girls to remember that politics is open to everyone, and that being an MP is incredibly rewarding as you can make a huge difference to people’s lives.
Thank you, Rupa for sharing your experience with us.
