By Mrs Postlethwaite, Deputy Head of Sixth Form

As part of BP’s Women in Data initiative, BP hosted over 40 Sixth Form students from GDST schools including some of our Year 12s at their offices in Canary Wharf. The day included a trading game in which students worked in teams to determine what action to take with regard to trading commodities given certain scenarios, determining for example how a 2.3% increase in demand for electricity in Asia would affect the price of oil in a year’s time. There was also a panel discussion, and lastly a tour of the trading floors. Students heard about a variety of career paths, roles, and background of different women in data.
