From Impact Craters to Tongue Twisters:BUDS Saturday Enrichment Programme Inspires Year 5s

In the third of our Year 5 BUDS Programme sessions on Saturday pupils continued building on the soft skills required to be able to think creatively, solve problems, and express themselves.

BUDS is our Saturday enrichment programme working with primary schools in Ealing, aimed at Building Understanding, Developing Skills in Gifted and Talented Year 5 pupils from local primary schools:  Ark Priory Primary Academy, Christ the Saviour CoE Primary School, Fielding Primary School, Hobbayne Primary School, Holy Family Catholic Primary School, Montpelier Primary School, North Ealing Primary School, Selborne Primary School, St Vincent’s Catholic Primary School, Stanhope Primary School and West Acton Primary School.

This week’s sessions featured:

STEM

Why is the moon surface pitted?

In groups, children used different objects to create impact craters on a Tiramisu experimental moon surface.

Public Speaking

Looking at the power of the voice and oracy and how we can use our voice as a tool of communication. Using organs of articulation to tongue twisters!

Creative Thinking

Protagonists and antagonists. Heroes and villains of our favourite stories.

Many thanks to everyone for coming and to our staff involved in the set up and running of the sessions (Ms Archer, Ms Absoud, Mr Rosolen and Mr Coxhill) plus our Sixth Form helpers Juliette, Georgia, Jasmine, Rahel, Aniya, Caitlin, Suzie, India, Sara Louise, Florence and Mariia.
