Charities and Volunteering Update – November 2024
This half term we will be taking part in the following winter and Christmas activities to raise money and collect items to support our regular charities.
Care 4 Calais
We continue to support refugee children at the Care 4 Calais supported hotel in Hayes through both our volunteering and fundraising. This half term, we would like to hold a collection of scarves, hats and gloves suitable for the children and adults living at the hotel. If you would like to contribute items towards the collection, please ask your child to bring good quality scarves, hats and gloves to the atrium from Monday 18th to Wednesday 20th November. We hope to distribute them on our next visit to the hotel later in November. Students will be distributing them at the hotel afterschool on the Wednesday.
Following our successful collection of Christmas gift bags last December for the children at the hotel, students would like to run this activity again. At the end of November students will be working together in groups to fill small gift bags to fill with gifts and sweets. Further details will be shared with students next week.
Ealing Winter Night Shelter
Our student-designed Christmas cards will once again be on sale at the end of November. Packs of cards can be ordered through Parent pay from Monday 25th November. This year all money will go towards the work of the Ealing Winter Night Shelter (EWNS), a charity who provide homeless individuals with food and a night’s sleep during the winter months in local churches.
We will also be running our Christmas jumper day on Thursday 12thDecember for the same charity. Students are invited to wear a Christmas jumper over their school uniform for a £2 donation. Payments can be made via the Just Giving link here.
We have recently started helping EWNS and now have three cooking dates arranged where some of our students/families are cooking a meal for the 14 residents which can be reheated at the shelter.
Year 10 heard all about the fantastic work by the charity earlier this week when a volunteer came into school to give a talk as part of the Year 10 enrichment lesson. She spoke with students about how the night shelter not only gives clients a safe sleeping space and hot meal for the night but also how they support clients to find employment and permanent accommodation. She also shared her own experience with the students of being homeless.
Year group charities
Year 11 raised over £400 for UNICEF, supporting children in the Middle East last half term through a series of exciting events, hosting two highly successful bake sales, a fun-filled ‘Duck Hunt’ game and a spectacular ‘Dress to Impress’ fashion show.
Year 10 will be deciding on their charity next week before planning their own fundraising events in the lead up to the end of term.
Thank you for your continued support!
