Charities Update – January 12th 2023
By Mrs Johnson, Charities Co-ordinator
Our Charity Reps have been busy planning for the term ahead! This half term the focus will be on Year 9’s chosen charity and they will be voting shortly on who to support. Watch this space!
Year 10 fundraised over £770 for their charity Crisis from their two bake sales, three events (Candy Cane, Christmas Fair, Lunchtime Movie Event) and sales at the School Play and the Christmas Bazaar. Well done to everyone involved!
Currently we are running a clothing collection for a local charity called Serving Our Heroes – who need winter items especially men’s clothes (coats, leggings, jumpers). Duvets and bedding – and old laptops if possible too. Please bring in your donations to our collection point in the lower atrium by 16th January.
Next week is the first 7Rs Week at school and students will be raising money from the events all week for WWF to make a donation to the climate recovery fund and also adopt an animal on behalf of the school.
Volunteering and enrichment have started up again. One enrichment group has started preparing resources and information to achieve their next Fairactive Award. They will be organising a Google Meet with our partner school Notre Dame de Namur in Pennsylvania to share their presentations and ideas. Our Year 10s will be heading out as volunteers to the local parks to help out the Park Rangers, while more students will be taking part in our craft making and singing in care homes initiative as part of their enrichment.
Meanwhile our brand new Year 12 Charity Reps, Abbi, Rithi, Harinee, Bella and Isie, introduced themselves to us in assembly this week. They will be sharing their ideas for charities and volunteering with the other students in the next Charities Newsletter. They are also beginning to plan an event to raise money for the charity supported by the Sixth Form, Meningitis Now.
