Charities Update – January 2025
This month has been a busy one for our charities and volunteering with a big focus on the Cultural Fair (28th January). The fair was a big success with 16 different cultures represented ranging from Europe and South Asian to Africa. There was also a variety of tasty cultural treats for sale as well as an opportunity to learn key words in the local languages. Ms Lindsay also led students in some energetic Scottish dancing! Money is still being counted but so far £300 has been raised for the work of Ealing Winter Night Shelter. (The charity was chosen by the Year 12 charity reps).
Enrichment
Year 10 and 11 enrichment students have enjoyed reconnecting with the local community. The new choir group has already visited Chestnut Lodge and St David’s care homes. The volunteering groups have begun work in Pitshanger park with the park ranger as well as visiting Heron House sheltered accommodation where they had a lovely afternoon chatting and playing boards games with the residents living there.
Year group charity
This half term the focus turns to Year 9 who voted to raise money for Cosmic. Cosmic supports the children’s and neonatal intensive care units at St Mary’s and Queen Charlotte’s Hospital by helping patients and their families, and by enabling their dedicated team of nurses and doctors to treat hundreds of babies and children in intensive care.
Year 9 have already organised a successful bake sale and spin the wheel over the past three weeks. They have another bake sale on February 12th, one event next Tuesday and delivering a gift on the last week of the term.
