Charities Update May 2025
Our Charities and Volunteering team is excited to share our activities from the first month of term and a look forward to initiatives after half term and beyond.
NHEHS Ealing Half Marathon Team for The Log Cabin
For several years now, we have entered a school team into the Ealing Half Marathon (EHM), raising money for the Log Cabin charity through the event. The Log Cabin is a charity based in Northfields providing after school care and activities for children with additional needs. This year, the EHM is being held on Sunday 28th September. It is one of the community’s biggest events and is west London’s only fully road closed half marathon. This year, EHM are also holding a 5K race opening the event out to even more people.
If you were intending to run in the EHM or 5K this year and would like to run as part of the school team, raising money also for the Log Cabin, please fill in this Google doc by Friday 30th May. There will be fantastic support from the many NHEHS families cheering along the route, guaranteed to make the run very enjoyable! If you have not signed up for the half marathon or 5K you can find the link here.
As a team we can join several other local schools in half marathon training sessions on Thursday evenings in Pitshanger park at 7:30pm. If you are interested in this, please contact Mrs Johnson know. We also intend to have a pre-race gathering for the NHEHS team at school in September.
Thank you to junior and senior school parents who have already signed up for Ealing Half Marathon and the 5K ! We are delighted they will be joined by nine members of staff for our team to run the Ealing Half Marathon and the 5K.
Log Cabin Party
Our Year 10s are looking forward to holding the annual party for children from the Log Cabin on June 9th. There will be indoor and outdoor games, crafts, singing, food and more!
Days for Girls
We are collecting for Days for Girls for the first week after half term as we would like to support the Ealing Branch of the Charity ‘Days for Girls’ again as well as the NHEHS student created charity ‘Sanitation 4 Sisters’ to mark world Menstrual Hygiene Day.
We are looking to collect the following:
100% cotton knickers (not shorts/thongs) – in sizes girls extra small to women’s extra large. Dark colours and patterns are preferred. They are often the most prized component in the kit for many recipients who have never had underwear.
100% cotton medium grade face flannels. (Not plush ones as they take too long to dry).
Disposable sanitary products for Sanitation 4 Sisters
If preferred, you can also donate towards the work of Days for Girls through Parentpay
Please bring all donations to the ground floor atrium from Monday 2nd June to Monday 9th June.
Just One Tree
Alongside other GDST schools we supported the ‘Just One Tree’ charity with a ‘Wear Green Day’ on 16th May for a pound donation which will be used to plant a tree in many countries across the world to fight climate change. This charity was founded by a GDST alumna, Amanda Bronkhorst to help restore the planet for future generations. via the following link.
Year 7 Fundraising for Stand Up to Cancer
Our Year 7s have voted on Stand Up to Cancer as their charity for this half term. They have already held a successful bake sale and are planning more events after half term, including another bake sale, a fun fair and teachers’ fashion show.
Volunteering Day for Year 8 and 9
Following the success of last year’s Volunteering Day, Year 8 and Year 9 will be taking part in our Volunteering Day 2025 on June 26th. Students will be going to help at a number of locations, including Year 8 students at local care homes, eco tasks, gardening and helping Days for Girls. Year 9 will be helping out at the local Salvation Army baby bank, Spanish and French at local primary schools, organising our Mencap Fair and more.

On July 2nd our Big Sisters (Year 12) will be taking part in a sponsored walk with their Little Sisters (Year 7) to raise funds for the Log Cabin. More details to follow.
