"We believe that being part of a community matters, it involves reaching out to volunteer, raising funds for causes we care about, and sharing our spaces to build meaningful relationships. These collaborations are mutually enriching and enable our students to create connections beyond the school gates."

Charities Update – September 2024

We are looking forward to another busy year of charities and volunteering initiatives in 2024-25 following an amazing 2023-24 (read all about it in our end of year newsletter).

First up, we will be fundraising for our designated local charity, The Log Cabin at the Ealing Half Marathon on Sunday 29 September. This will be our sixth year of running in the half marathon which is one of the community’s biggest events and is west London’s only fully road closed half marathon. The Log Cabin provides after school care and activities for children with additional needs.

We have a keen staff team, including Mr Gallagher, Mrs Johnson, Mrs Goodall and Mr Lawrence who have been busy training for the race and would like to encourage any parents who have already signed up to join us in fundraising for this fantastic cause. If you were intending to run in the EHM this year and would like to run as part of the school team, raising money also for the Log Cabin, please fill in this Google doc by Friday 20th September. You will be provided with an NHEHS team T-shirt and the fantastic support of the many NHEHS families cheering along the route, guaranteed to make the run very enjoyable! If you have not signed up for the half marathon but would like to run, it is not too late and you can find the link here.

There will also be a Dress Up day on Friday 27 September at both senior and junior school. Students are welcome to come to school dressed in sportswear for a £2 donation for the Log Cabin. Cash donations will be collected in form time or parents are welcome to make their contribution directly to the school via our Log Cabin Just Giving Page.

Also on 27th September, our staff will be supporting the Macmillan Coffee Morning.

Looking ahead to October, we will be collecting for our annual Harvest appeal on Tuesday 1st and 2nd October. All donations will go to the Food Bank at St Mellitus in Hanwell. More details to follow via School Comms but we will be awarding prizes to the Form group who collect the most amount of food and for the best decorated hamper. In particular, Foodbank are asking for: Breakfast cereals, vegetarian meals, long life fruit juice, squash and milk, tinned fruit, vegetables, meat and soup, rice, jam, honey, peanut butter and coffee, tea and drinking chocolate.

On the volunteering front, we are hoping to visit Care 4 Calais in Hayes. Last year we supported the organisation with several clothing and toy collections as well as visits from our volunteers, including some of our Year 8s who travelled to Hayes to lead activities (colouring, crafts, games) for under 5s who are supported by Care 4 Calais, as part of our whole school Volunteering Day.

Enrichment will start up again for Year 10 and 11 on Tuesday afternoons, where volunteering options include helping out at local parks, reading in local schools and visiting local care homes. Sixth Form volunteers are also visiting local primary schools to help with reading in their free periods.

Finally, we have a new and exciting opportunity to be involved with a local charity. Ealing Winter Night Shelter (EWNS) are a charity who provide homeless individuals with food and a night’s sleep during the winter months in local churches. EWNS are looking for groups of students or families who would be happy to cook a meal for the 14 residents which can be reheated at the shelter. This could be a one off or on a regular basis. Please let Mrs Johnson know if you would like to be a part of this team.

Thank you for your continued support!
