Classics and Engineering Depts Team Up for Suburani Build-It Competition

Last week some of our Year 8 Classics students enjoyed building their own 3D model as part of the Suburani BUILD IT challenge!

Participants chose one building or monument from the Suburani series, from Rome or any other location that the characters visit. Then they were challenged to build it in 3D, either as a digital or physical model, using any medium, accompanied by a short description of their project, including why they chose this building and how they researched its structure.

Flora, Anushka and Ameela built a physical model of a Roman temple, having chosen to research and create the Temple of Vesta, the remains of which can still be seen in the Roman Forum today.

The three students said, “We chose to create the Temple of Vesta as it embodies a key aspect of ancient Roman Culture. The eternal flame and sacred duties of the vestal virgins [SIC] were viewed as incredibly important which is why we chose to replicate the Temple of Vesta. Our project began with thorough research into the Temple of Vesta’s historical and architectural significance, including the role of the vestal virgins [SIC] in maintaining the eternal flame and looking at the original plans for the building.”

The winners of the competition will be announced on February 2nd – we have our fingers crossed!
