"We believe that being part of a community matters, it involves reaching out to volunteer, raising funds for causes we care about, and sharing our spaces to build meaningful relationships. These collaborations are mutually enriching and enable our students to create connections beyond the school gates."

Doodles 2024 – NHEHS Creative Writing Magazine

Showcasing a range of diverse talent and passion all the way from Year 7 to Year 13, the Doodles Team is delighted to welcome you all to the 5th annual Doodles Magazine! Through this magazine, we aim to unite the written word and the visual arts, whether this be rhyming couplets and prose, or painting on canvas. The Doodles magazine is an amazing opportunity for students to express their love for these subjects and gain recognition for their creative and explorative minds, be it Art or English.

The magazine you hold today has been carefully collated by a dedicated team of English and Art enthusiasts, who have had the difficult job of choosing out of the many entries we received. Yet we have all reaped the benefits of seeing our hard work manifest in a brilliant collection of artwork and creative writing. The challenging process of being ruthless in our selection process taught us all to pay attention to detail, and was followed by the fun aspect of deciding font and layout (which are very important factors!).

For both of us, working as editors-in-chief has been an invaluable experience, giving an insight into the tireless work that goes on behind the scenes to publish the magazine, whose creation is a tradition the previous Reps have passed down to us. From sending many emails to remind people of tasks and events, to trying to organise a suitable meeting time amongst many busy schedules, we can safely say that this role has taught us to effectively lead a team.

We hope that you all enjoy reading these wonderful entries that highlight the amazing talent that is cultivated in this school. This edition’s theme was inspired by the many changes going on in the world around us right now, from AI to climate change. The range of entries has definitely illustrated the unique and innovative mindsets that the students here apply to their tasks.
