Eleanor Takes Second Place in Regional Articulation Heat
We are delighted to share the news that Year 12 Eleanor C-S was placed second in a regional heat of Articulation at Studio Voltaire last month with her speech about the film La Haine.
Run by The National Gallery, the annual Articulation Prize invites students aged 16-19 to give a 10-minute presentation to an audience about a work of art, architecture or an artefact of their choice in a museum or gallery setting. The presentations are then judged by adjudicators who assess based on content, structure, delivery and originality of approach and unique potential. Each school holds internal school heats first to choose a student to represent them at regional heats or finals held in galleries and museums across the UK.
Read Eleanor’s perspective on taking part in the competition:
“As someone who was initially concerned about the fact that I was not studying Art or History of Art, I found the experience incredibly exciting and interesting. The diversity of presentation was impressive, ranging from music albums to architecture, as well as my own presentation on a film. I was able to not only enrich and expand my knowledge of art, but I also found that preparing and delivering a speech from memory was a valuable experience that I have seen positively manifest in other areas of my life. The calibre of the people I met there was remarkable; everyone was clearly passionate about their topic, and the conversation were both friendly and academically intriguing. I was fortunate enough to be placed second in the regional finals, but regardless of the result, the experience itself was fantastic, and I highly recommend it to anyone, even if they think it’s not for them.”
The adjudicators’ feedback praised Eleanor’s presentation for being “really well researched, written and interpreted. The way you situated the film within the art historical context was great and inspired me to want to watch it.” Ms Farmer, Head of History of Art here at NHEHS congratulated Eleanor for her excellent presentation and for the impressive work and commitment she brought to it. Through the competition, Eleanor is now able to join the Articulation Alumni Network. Congratulations!
