Ellie and Tessa Shine in Unihive Future Researcher Competition at Homerton College, Cambridge
The Unihive Future Researcher Competition provides young minds with a unique opportunity to engage with real-world challenges through interdisciplinary research. By focusing on complex global issues, the competition encourages participants to develop research proposals that integrate multiple academic subjects.
Two of our year 11s, Ellie CS and Tessa W, took on the challenge, entering the Social Sciences and Humanities category. After months of preparation, including support from Ms. Copin, Miss Gordon and Dr. Letters, both of our students were selected as finalists for the competition. Only 10 students per category made it to the finals, making this a remarkable achievement. NHEHS was also among the very few schools to be represented by more than one student in the finals.
Dr Letters accompanied Ellie and Tessa to Homerton College in Cambridge for the final presentation. The day was filled with inspiring talks, networking opportunities, and, of course, their final presentations. They were not only presenting to esteemed professors, but also to their fellow competitors, teachers, and parents.
One of the highlights of the day was a talk and Q&A session with a Cambridge professor who shared insights into university life, offering Ellie and Tessa a wonderful opportunity to learn about academic life at one of the world’s leading universities.
Although they did not win, the experience was invaluable. The opportunity to present their research proposals to and receive feedback from leading scholars in the prestigious setting of Homerton College was an amazing achievement.
To celebrate the end of the competition, Ellie and Tessa returned to Cambridge the following evening for a formal dinner. It was a fitting end to an unforgettable experience, allowing them to reflect on their accomplishments and the journey they had undertaken.
Congratulations, Ellie and Tessa!
