Enterprise and Entrepreneurship – Careers Workshop for Year 7
Earlier this week Year 7 took part in an ‘Enterprise and Entrepreneurship’ careers workshop led by Bright Futures. They worked in teams to complete competitive activities to develop their enterprise skills. During an interactive introduction, students identified the skills needed to be a successful entrepreneur such as risk-taking, turning ideas into reality, and communication. They learnt about the difference between commercial and social enterprises and also the ‘3 Ps’ of modern business: Profit, Planet, & People.
Students were then set a social enterprise challenge. First, they had to choose a charity that they felt passionate about. Then, they picked a famous cultural or sporting event that they wished to partner with. Next, they had to design and make a product (branded with their charity name) to be sold at the event. And finally, each team pitched their product to the event organisers. In preparation for the pitch, students received detailed instructions on how to structure a 90-second presentation and they were given time to practise until their pitch was slick and professional.
Feedback from the Year 7s was very positive, including:
“It was helpful for showing what helps you to make a good first impression to help you get a job.”
“I enjoyed the public speaking part as it built my confidence to speak.”
“I learnt a lot about companies and charities partnering together.”
“I enjoyed learning about the skills you need to be an entrepreneur.”
