Fascinating Fishbourne – Year 9 Trip to the Roman Palace
By Miss Bradshaw, Head of Classics
On Friday 13th January, Year 9 boarded coaches at NHEHS and headed down to Sussex to visit the extraordinary Fishbourne Roman Palace, which is located near Chichester. We explored a fascinating museum, which offered context about the Romans’ conquest of Britain, admired the stunning mosaics, took part in a workshop which enabled us to handle materials from the building of the palace itself, and roamed the formal and herbal gardens in the sunshine. Adeline said, “Visiting Fishbourne Palace was a great way for our Latin lessons to come to life and taught us a lot about the Romans and their innovations. My favourite part was the garden where we learnt about different herbs they used for purposes like repelling snakes or ward away evil spirits!”
Thank you so much to Dr Swallow for organising the trip and to all the staff who accompanied us!
