Festive Florence and the Art of the Renaissance – History of Art Trip
On December 13th, the Art History department took us to Florence for an incredible trip packed with visits to key museums and cathedrals that complemented our study of the Italian Renaissance.
Many highlights of the trip included wandering the Uffizi Gallery and Palazzo Medici, however our personal favourite was visiting the Brancacci Chapel to see Masaccio’s frescos. Each day consisted of applying knowledge from the classroom to the case studies we were witnessing, therefore it was important to practice verbal analysis with our teachers – this was especially helpful when discussing Michelangelo’s ‘David’ in Galleria Dell’ Accademia.
A balance between learning and exploring the city was essential throughout the trip, and independent time to visit traditional Christmas markets definitely kept up our excitement for the holidays.
