"We believe that being part of a community matters, it involves reaching out to volunteer, raising funds for causes we care about, and sharing our spaces to build meaningful relationships. These collaborations are mutually enriching and enable our students to create connections beyond the school gates."

First Ever 7Rs Week at NHEHS!

In the spirit of sustainability we are excited to announce the first ever 7Rs week at NHEHS from January 16-20th. We will be reducing, reusing, recycling, researching, repurposing, repairing and renting all sorts of items during the week with different activities each day. Our initiatives will also contribute to our school’s GDST EduCCate Global Bronze Award.

The week will kick off with our Eco Reps leading assembly followed by an eco-themed bake sale at break and lunchtime, with sweet treats baked by the Eco Reps. Meanwhile over at Junior School the Junior Eco Warriors and Eco Councillors to read sustainability stories to KS1 girls at lunchtime.

Tuesday will be a ‘make a watering can’ workshop for students to make watering cans for their form plants out of old milk bottles which they have brought into school to reuse. Tuesday will also be the day that every form receives their form plants!

Wednesday will see our Eco Reps run a lunchtime Sewing Workshop for those who want to bring clothes to fix (sewing on buttons/ patches/ fixing holes). In formtime there will be art competition for the best piece of artwork made of recycled/ junk material brought in from home. The artwork will be displayed in the atrium for judging.

On Thursday everyone will be encouraged to stop printing or reduce their paper printing. In Junior School our Eco Warriors and Eco Council will be leading a Litter Picking Workshop in the playground. The Councillors will also be collecting snack wrappers throughout the week. The class with the least amount by the end of the week will receive a certificate. Students are encouraged to bring their snacks in either a reusable container (that is labelled with their names) or snacks that do not require wrappers such as fruit. This will help to reduce the amount of rubbish that will be sent to landfills

Friday will be a non-uniform day at Senior School with the theme ‘Green’ – either second hand or green in colour for charity while our Junior Eco Councillors and Eco Warriors will hold a Planting Workshop for Years 3 and 4 in the playground. Pupils participating in the planting workshop will need to bring a recycled or repurposed container to plant their seeds.

Students will be raising money from the events for WWF to make a donation to the climate recovery fund and also adopt an animal on behalf of the school!

Watch our social channels for these and more green activities next week!
