"We believe that being part of a community matters, it involves reaching out to volunteer, raising funds for causes we care about, and sharing our spaces to build meaningful relationships. These collaborations are mutually enriching and enable our students to create connections beyond the school gates."

From Radiohead to Debussy – Lower School Musicians Shine at Autumn Concert

Parents and friends of NHEHS were treated to a wonderful variety of classical and pop music last Monday at the Lower School Concert from over 100 students from Years 7 and 8.

Our Lower School Choir launched the evening with two pieces very familiar to the audience, “I see the light” by Menken and “Walking in the air” by Blake.  Year 7’s Mitsuki captivated with “Clair de lune” by Debussy on the piano before the Year 7-9 string trio of Katerina, Arabella and Caterina played the lively “Andantino” by Paganini. Caterina then took the stage for a beautiful cello solo of the “Chanson Villageoise” by Trowell.

Conducted by Miss Dunne, our Session Orchestra (Ajuni, Marianne, Mary Kate, Charlotte, Petra, Johanna, Florence and Eliana) performed Grieg’s “Watchman Song” before the Year 7 Flute Ensemble played “Suite Barometrique” by Joubert and “Over the Rainbow” by Arlen, led by Sixth Former Lara and coached by Ms Robertson. Arabella returned to the stage for a lovely violin solo of Boulanger’s “Nocturne.”

The focus then shifted to our rock bands who performed brilliantly despite the seasonal illnesses which caused several band members to sadly miss out on the concert. First up was the Year 7 Rock Band of Lana and Polly who played “Shake it off” with guest appearances by Georgia on bass guitar and Anahita on lead vocals, including an epic rap. The Year 8 Rock Band of Johanna, Lily, Jessica, Ottilie, Katerina, Florence and Ash followed with “Another one bites the dust.”  The final band was the Year 9-10 Rock Band with Orla, Gwen, Georgia & Nairi, supported by Mr Edge who played “Just” by Radiohead in great style.

The concert ended on a high with Harmony Choir’s rendition of “Africa” by Toto with the audience enjoying participating in the chorus!

Thank you to all our musicians, music staff and our Year 9 and 10 musicians (who stepped in to play at the last minute) for a fantastic evening of music.
