"We believe that being part of a community matters, it involves reaching out to volunteer, raising funds for causes we care about, and sharing our spaces to build meaningful relationships. These collaborations are mutually enriching and enable our students to create connections beyond the school gates."

GDST Sustainability and EDI Symposium

Two weeks ago, our Eco Councillors, Diversity Council and Eco Warriors from Year 5 and 6 and four Year 12s attended the Sustainability and EDI Symposium at Bromley High School GDST.

In the first session, pupils listened to guest speakers Amanda Bronkhorst, CEO from Just One Tree, and Dr Dion Terrelonge, a fashion psychologist. The girls became more aware that the act of change can start from a single person, with her inspiring story of how she began her business. When listening to Dr Terrelonge, they also learned that most people only wear 30% of their wardrobe and how fashion poverty is a current crisis.

Our pupils participated in two workshops over the course of the day. In the first they made keyrings from recycled textile materials and in the second they were challenged to design a way to bring green energy to areas in crisis. Our girls also heard from other GDST students ranging from Year 3 to Sixth Formers as they shared inspiring stories that resonated with the students surrounding diversity and sustainability.

All the girls had a wonderful day and came away with fresh knowledge and ideas on how to be more sustainable at NHEHS.
