History of Art Reps’ Art London Gallery Recommendations for the Holidays

Our History of Art Reps, Orla P and Helena E, have come up with a fantastic list of galleries to visit during the Christmas holidays and beyond, which you can read here: History of Art Reps – Gallery Guide December 2024

Helena visited the Tate Modern to take in one of the recommendations, which she writes about below:

On the 23rd November, I travelled to Tate Modern to see the latest Turbine Hall installation, Open Wound by Mire Lee. She wanted the Turbine Hall to represent the inside of a body, with an industrialised, factory-like atmosphere. When you first enter Tate Modern, you are welcomed with an abundance of over-hanging fabric sculptures, and these were particularly striking as the wind from the entrance doors is enough to make them swing mid-air. As you move deeper into the Turbine Hall, the focal point of the artwork is revealed – a suspended seven-metre long turbine. It rotated slowly and dripped a muddy, red liquid, and I found it fascinating how Mire Lee tried to recreate an ‘open wound’ with the use of silicone tubes. The installation was extremely immersive, and I found myself staying for longer than I would have imagined, so I highly recommend visiting it before it leaves Tate Modern on March 16th 2025!
