In the Careers Spotlight – Alumna Tara Odeinde
A huge thank you to alumna Tara Odeinde, who entered our Careers Spotlight to share her experience of Uni, entering the world of work and her career since she left NHEHS in 2011.
An adventure seeker, Tara left school to read Hispanic Studies at Nottingham University with languages. This opened a world of travelling so it was fitting that after she graduated she spent an extended period of time travelling solo through South America -an experience she strongly recommends! It was cycling through the vineyards in Mendoza that led to her first career choice and when she came home sought out opportunities within the wine industry. She successfully worked in Fine Wines for a couple of years but she found that her need to work with languages wasn’t being fulfilled and honed in on the Civil Service.
In 2016 the Department for International Trade was created post Brexit and Tara found a role within their infrastructure team. Through exposure to various projects and a series of internal promotions she is now Head of Latin America and the Caribbean, International Strategy and Engagement at the Department for International Trade. It’s a role she thoroughly enjoys and with the pandemic out of the way, work trips are back on – she has so far been to Peru and Brazil – with more on the way.
