This week, Year 12 students from NHEHS, Greenford High School, Ellen Wilkinson School for Girls, and Dormers Wells High School met to participate in this year’s GreenSTEM project. This initiative offers students the opportunity to take on STEM research in small collaborative groups, working with Doctoral research scientists Ariane and Ugo from Imperial College London.

The project spans four events, and in each session, students will explore different solutions to pressing global challenges. This year’s topics include:

• Land use change, zoonosis, and emerging infectious diseases
• Managing resource depletion: Oil in Europe
• Land use change, ecosystem services, and biodiversity loss

Throughout the programme, students will develop their research skills, learning how to approach scientific research while exploring STEM topics beyond the standard curriculum. In groups, they will then work towards innovative solutions to sustainability challenges.

Last week, NHEHS students delivered presentations on sustainability topics of our choice, with talks covering subjects such as piezoelectricity, making water more sustainable, and Perovskite solar cells. A big thank you to all the teachers who came to listen, and to Mr. Fernando for organising!
