Our Career Spotlight lecture this morning was the perfect introduction to the field of law.

Having heard from both an experienced and engaging solicitor and barrister, we were introduced to the intricacies of each profession, particularly in the field of medical negligence, which resonated with both us budding lawyers and medics. Ms Kavadas gave us excellent insight into the proceedings and process of her duties, explaining the responsibilities of a solicitor and their colleagues in concise and informative form. Ms Leonard continued, using an example of a medical negligence case to help us understand the role and thought processes of a barrister presented with a case. I particularly enjoyed exploring legal terminology and principles through discussion, offering a few rebuttals which Ms Leonard unpacked and responded to – helping me see which arguments held weight and why.

Overall, this was an informative and riveting session which will no doubt help us in our future endeavours.
