"We believe that being part of a community matters, it involves reaching out to volunteer, raising funds for causes we care about, and sharing our spaces to build meaningful relationships. These collaborations are mutually enriching and enable our students to create connections beyond the school gates."

Mathematical Enrichment Day for Year 12 Further Mathematicians at Murray Edwards College, Cambridge

By Adeline G, Year 12

The Year 12 Further Mathematicians were invited to Murray Edwards College, for a day full of mathematical enrichment, and insights into taking a maths (or maths-adjacent) course at a world-class university. The event was for all GDST students taking Further Maths, which gave us an opportunity to meet with peers pursuing similar interests.

The day began with an inspirational speaker who shared her mathematical journey, from studying a joint honours degree in Maths and Psychology to working on the cutting edge of AI. Students then took part in two workshops. The first covered optimisation problems and problem-solving. The second was about game theory, which was interactive and the students participated in some games encouraging strategic thinking. Throughout the day, we were accompanied by students currently studying mathematical subjects at Murray Edwards College, who shared their experiences applying to and studying at Cambridge.

After lunch in the iconic domed dining hall, we were taken on a tour of the college by current students at Murray Edwards. The day concluded with a talk in the style of a first year Cambridge maths lecture.

A big thank you to Mr Morony for organising the trip! It was an excellent opportunity to learn about mathematical subjects at Cambridge and meet other GDST students.
