Mathematicians Rise to the Mathematical Olympiad Challenge
By Mrs Drummond, Head of Mathematics
On the 28th October, 21 of our finest Mathematicians in the Sixth form took part in the gruelling Mathematical Olympiad for Girls. The Mathematical Olympiad for Girls, run by the UK Mathematics Trust, is aimed at girls and young women across the UK and challenges girls to tackle advanced mathematical problems.
Their challenge was to answer 5 questions over 2½ hours ensuring their solutions contain rigorous mathematical arguments. The girls deemed the first question very doable but the later ones pushed them to apply their mathematical knowledge beyond the usual curriculum constraints.
Here’s one of the questions:
We look forward to receiving our results later this term.
