Maths & Science Week 2026
From forensic investigations to record-breaking Pi recitals, our Science & Maths Week was jam-packed with discovery and high-energy learning. Here is a look at how we celebrated:
Assemblies: Our Maths and Science Reps led fascinating assemblies showing us how their subjects play essential roles in everyday life.
Forensics: Year 8 took on the role of investigators to solve the mystery: “Who Killed Mr. Body?” By analysing fingerprints, synthetic blood droplets, and fabric fibres, as well as using ink chromatography, they successfully cracked the case.
Biology: Year 9 students extracted DNA during their lessons.
Engineering: During Year 7 House Engineering, students designed rockets and transporters to carry them across the floor! The week reached a literal high point when Mr Lawrence used a bicycle pump to propel the rockets into the sky!
Chemistry: At the Lotions & Potions Club, students experimented with a “chocolate rock cycle” – grating chocolate to create sedimentary, metamorphic, and igneous ‘rock’ layers. They also explored the effects of chemical and physical weathering on limestone.
AI: Students in Years 8 and 9 explored the future of technology during our “Hour of AI” computing sessions.
Physics: Members of the “Defining Gravity Club” got to grips with the laws of the universe. Year 7 students even gained “magical” static powers thanks to the Van de Graaff generator, while the Year 12 Physics Reps demonstrated how to create amazing smoke rings.
Psychology: Our lively Psychology Club, with participants from Years 8–13, saw students discussing and participating in the famous Stroop Test.
Pi Day: We ended the week on a high with our Pi recitals. Eleanor in Year 11 smashed the school record by reciting over 500 digits, and students enjoyed estimating Pi from the balcony.
Our Year 12 Science Reps visited the Junior School to share their passion for STEM on Friday morning. They taught Biology, Chemistry, Physics, Engineering, and Computing skills to our pupils in Reception, Year 1 and Year 2.
Looking Ahead: Keep an eye out for some new arrivals in the Science Department after Easter! There was huge demand to apply for the “Chick Rep” roles this week, and we can’t wait for the eggs to hatch.
A huge thank you to our Science Department for such a brilliant and inspiring week! See Science Week in action on our reel below:
