Music Trip: BBC Singers Dazzle with West End Classics and a Touch of Bradford Spirit
By Georgia C, Year 12
Owain Park’s incredible repertoire included songs from Sweeney Todd, Phantom of the Opera, and of course a powerful rendition of One Day More from Les Misérables.
The energy of a Friday night filled the hall (at the request of the BBC 3 presenter, despite the fact it was a slightly sleepy Sunday afternoon) as the BBC Singers and Concert Orchestra broke into Richard Rodgers’ ‘It’s a Grand Night for Singing’. The two most moving pieces were by far ‘You’ll Never Walk Alone’ (the infamous Liverpudlian football anthem) and Phantom of the Opera’s ‘Music of the Night’, where both singers and orchestra were joined by Bantam of the Opera, a group of Bradford city football fans with a passion to share Bradford’s cultural heritage while singing.
All in all, Songs from the Shows was a hit!
