NHEHS Awarded Eco-Schools Green Flag Award with Distinction

We have recently been awarded the Eco-Schools Green Flag Award with distinction. Our Eco Committee, along with Mrs Cassar, last year’s Environment and Sustainability Lead, succeeded in completing a number of activities and tasks over the course of the academic year to meet the requirements and win the accreditation.

The judges said: “ Your Eco-Warriors demonstrated a remarkable commitment to the Eco-Schools programme by taking charge of the Environmental Review process and seeking input from school experts in catering and maintenance. Their resourcefulness and determination to overcome challenges are commendable. The projects in your Action Plan are aspirational and inspiring. They show you have an ambitious and assured Eco-Warriors who are determined to create the biggest impacts possible for your school, local community, and beyond. ”

The judges continued by discussing how we have integrated sustainability into the curriculum across the Junior School: “Your curriculum links come from a variety of year groups and subject areas, they’re very good examples of innovative and engaging environmental education! We especially enjoyed seeing the fantastic examples of pupil’s work that were uploaded to your application, we loved the poster made by Rose! Your Eco-Warriors have used an impressive variety of methods to promote sustainability and keep their school community informed about their Eco-Schools’ initiatives throughout the academic year. You partook in assemblies, newsletter and attended the school’s first Eco Summit!”

Finally, the judges noted how committed to sustainability our pupils are: “By integrating sustainability and environmental education into their core learning experiences, students demonstrated a deep commitment to their action plan, fostered collaborations with staff and peers, successfully implemented initiatives such as “No Mow May” and Walk to School Week, and engaged the local community through events like the Eco Summit, resulting in increased environmental awareness and open dialogue among the students, staff, and leadership. You should be very proud of all these achievements!”

Well done to everyone involved, this is a fantastic achievement!
