NHEHS Becomes an Accredited European Parliament Ambassador School (EPAS)
By Mr Gallagher
Over the past year, our school has embarked on an exciting journey to become an accredited European Parliament Ambassador School (EPAS). This initiative was designed to help us understand our evolving relationship with Europe, especially post-Brexit, and to explore how we can shape our future by embracing shared values – cooperation, fairness, open dialogue, and the protection of human rights.
A dedicated group of sixth formers has been at the heart of this effort. They’ve undergone specialised training and participated in engaging workshops at Europe House in Westminster, all aimed at deepening their understanding of European institutions in a fun and dynamic way. As part of the accreditation process, these students have created and led Europe-themed activities throughout the year, including treasure hunts, escape rooms, quizzes, and an information point accessible to all pupils.
As a result of their high level of involvement, we were honoured with an invitation to attend the EUROSCOLA event in Strasbourg over the October half term. There, our students will have the unique opportunity to interact with peers from across Europe as they step into the shoes of Members of the European Parliament for a day. They will also visit the Council of Europe and the European Court of Human Rights – an enriching experience that few have the chance to enjoy.
Thanks to the enthusiasm and commitment of our students, we are proud to announce that our school has now officially earned the status of a European Parliament Ambassador School. This places us among a select group of schools across Europe that actively encourage students to become ambassadors for fostering positive relationships with Europe.
Congratulations to our EPAS ambassadors, who have worked tirelessly to achieve this milestone: Iris Z, Clemency O, Aila S, Katherine M, Martha H, Matilda P-S, Millie A, Millie C, Nanthana L, Preet K, Victoria N, Tehreem A, and Maja B.
