NHEHS Healthcare Conference 2025
Over 40 Year 12 students from four schools (Cardinal Wiseman School, Greenford High School, Harrow School and NHEHS) attended our NHEHS Healthcare Conference last week. The event kicked off with an engaging talk on the importance of Dentistry from King’s College Dentistry student Sabah Malik. We also enjoyed excellent talks from four experts on a variety of healthcare topics and careers:
Dr Carol Whelan – Consultant Cardiologist and Honorary Associate Professor, University College London
Dr Nick Oliver – Professor of Human Metabolism and Consultant in Diabetes and Endocrinology, Imperial Healthcare NHS Trust
Marirena Befaloukou – PhD in Clinical Medicine Research and Machine Learning in Healthcare, Imperial College London
Anastasia Ilina – PhD in AI for Healthcare and Translational Neuroscience, Imperial College London
Students also took the stage to share some impressive work on cutting-edge interdisciplinary topics including CRISPR, dental nanotechnology, limb salvage techniques, premature baby care and cancer vaccines.
A huge thank you to our speakers Dr Carol Whelan, Dr Nick Oliver, Sabah Malik, Marirena Bafaloukou, Anastasia Ilina, our partner schools, as well as Miss Vanini and Miss Goodsell for making the conference possible and helping our students learn more about the many different paths into healthcare.
Based on the feedback we received, the conference was widely praised for being insightful, informative and inspiring. Students valued the opportunity to explore a variety of medical fields, gain a deeper understanding of university life and learn more about the application process. Many particularly appreciated the diverse range of speakers, especially the healthcare professionals who shared their experiences.
Overall, the event was seen as both educational and enjoyable – a valuable step forward for those considering a future in medicine.
