NHEHS Hosts the Faraday Engineering Challenge for Third Year
Last week we hosted the Faraday Challenge in Ealing for the third year in a row. Run by STEM professionals from the IET (The Institution of Engineering and Technology), one of the world’s leading professional societies for the engineering and technology community, the Faraday Challenge Days give students the opportunity to research, design and make solutions to genuinely tough engineering problems.
Each IET Faraday Challenge Day involves school teams, each made up of six Year 8 students who are interested in either Science, Design & Technology, Mathematics or Engineering. The Challenge is all about letting the students be creative and use their own problem-solving skills to explore their capabilities as engineers and can lead to a CREST Award.
IET Faraday Challenge Days are taking place across the UK where teams of local school students compete to find the best solution to an engineering-related challenge.
This year the challenges was themed around batteries and sustainability and we were joined students from Ealing Fields School. We were thrilled that one of our NHEHS teams won and we are waiting to see if they make it to the regional final.
A big thank you to our Year 12 Engineering Reps, Olivia, Ash and Imen who volunteered to help out on the day. Olivia said, “The Faraday Challenge is a competition that aims to inspire young engineers of the future by setting them design briefs which they have to create solutions for. I helped run the shop where the students could buy supplies when making their projects which allowed me to help and guide them through their decisions as well as get to know them better. I found it to be such an enriching experience to help the younger students and enjoyed being able to test my own skills when working with them on their briefs.”
