NHEHS Hosts Travelling Exhibition Celebrating the Achievements of Black Classicists
By Miss Bradshaw, Head of Classics
We are very lucky to be hosting a travelling exhibition celebrating the achievements of black Classicists, which will be on display in the NHEHS Library for the whole of January!
The beautiful panels highlight the stories of 18 impressive Classicists who contributed a great deal to the field of Classics in the 19th and 20th centuries, and particularly in paving the way for further educational success for future generations of African Americans. A highlight of the exhibition is Helen Chesnutt, who co-authored ‘The Road To Latin’ in 1932, a textbook which you can still access on Google Books! This exhibition is important to us in the Classics Department because it demonstrates the diversity of the discipline and that the study of Classics is for everyone. We hope that your daughters enjoy engaging with the exhibition and completing the accompanying quiz competition.
Many thanks to Dr Swallow for organising the exhibition.
