NHEHS Juniors Win U11 GDST Netball Tournament at Condover Hall
By Mrs Vao, Head of Junior PE
The two NHEHS Year 6 teams began their trip with a three‐and‐a‐half‐hour coach journey to Condover Hall, full of excitement and eager for a weekend of sport and adventure. Excitement remained high despite the rain that greeted them on arrival and continued throughout the evening, making for a rather damp start. With the combination of travel, weather, and the fact that the girls were far too lively to settle down to sleep, they had very little rest that night!
Thankfully, everyone woke to a bright and sunny Saturday morning, providing perfect conditions for the start of play. However, the previous night’s lack of rest showed, and both the A and B teams struggled to play their best netball during their respective morning and afternoon matches.
Despite the fatigue of playing seven matches, the girls showed impressive resilience. The A Team went unbeaten in the pool stage, securing their place in the A Cup matches on Sunday. The B Team also performed strongly, qualifying for the B Cup. When not on court, the girls made the most of the excellent facilities at Condover Hall. They threw themselves enthusiastically into activities such as tunnelling, climbing, abseiling, zip wire, and high ropes, adding adventure and team‐bonding to the weekend.
On Sunday, each team played three matches in their respective Cup groups. The B Team finished second after a narrow loss to Putney B in a nail‐biting contest. The A Team won all three of their Cup matches, earning them a place in the A Cup Final, against Putney A. The final was an intense 10‐minute showdown, with the NHEHS A Team showing determination, focus, and a fierce desire to win. With loud support from the B Team on the sidelines, NHEHS gradually pulled ahead, securing a 5–3 victory at the final whistle. What followed were excited screams and celebrations as the girls realised, they had achieved a well‐deserved tournament win. It was a fantastic weekend of fun, teamwork, resilience and achievement and the girls should feel incredibly proud of all they accomplished.
