"We believe that being part of a community matters, it involves reaching out to volunteer, raising funds for causes we care about, and sharing our spaces to build meaningful relationships. These collaborations are mutually enriching and enable our students to create connections beyond the school gates."

NHEHS Neurodiversity Week – My Wonderful Brain

Last week the whole NHEHS community enjoyed Neurodiversity Week, which included a wide range of daily events. Our school is an inclusive setting that is proud to promote awareness and continue to educate and inform our school community to understand and celebrate neurodiversity.

Our Neurodiversity Committee chose the theme of  My Wonderful Brain’ for the week, which kicked off with the launch of the first Neurodiversity Newsletter (see below) that each student received and read in their Form Time.

Tuesday 17th March was Shoesday Tuesday’ when girls were invited to wear their own (flat!) shoes for the day. Respected academic, Dr. Peter Lovatt aka ‘Dr Dance’ came into school to deliver a very interactive assembly as he talked about the psychology of movement and and its transformative power, alongside sharing his journey to becoming a a dancer and psychologist who writes and speaks on the Psychology of Dance.

On Wednesday and Thursday, students took part in ‘Stop, Drop & Doodle.’ In Form Time, girls created their own individual doodles, which formed the surface of our giant neurodiverse brain on display in the atrium. The following day girls were invited to stick their individual doodles onto our wonderful brain.

At breaktime on Friday, there was a fidget prop sale. Fidget props can be used to support children, particularly those with sensory-seeking behaviours, and may positively influence their behavioural and emotional wellbeing. Lastly, Year 7 enjoyed a fun double ‘Dance’ session in their usual PE slot to end the week.
