NHEHS Triumphs at Hispanic Theatre Festival

By Ms Barbosa, Head of Spanish

We are delighted to share the great news about our participation in the XII Hispanic Theatre Festival at North London Collegiate School. We took two of our A-level students, Dain K and Clemmie LW, to perform an extract from Yerma by Federico García Lorca. Competing against schools such as NLCS, Eton College, Mill Hill School, Harrow School, City of London School for Girls, Haberdashers’ Elstree Schools and Tonbridge School, we are proud to announce that Dain won the award for Best Actress.

The performances were judged by a distinguished panel, including representatives from the Spanish Embassy, Fitzwilliam College at Cambridge University, a former BBC radio producer, and a representative from Instituto Cervantes. Dain’s prize is a one-week course at Colegio Delibes in Salamanca.

Both Dain and Clemmie delivered an exceptional performance, and the judges highlighted the difficulty of the text and praised Dain’s ability to embody Lorca’s character of Juan. They commended her ability to convey the intensity of the emotions while keeping her timing and delivery flawless.

We have been rehearsing intensively for the past three weeks, and the girls have shown incredible enthusiasm throughout, which truly shone through in their performance.

It’s a wonderful achievement, and we are incredibly proud of their hard work and this amazing outcome!

A big thank you to NLCS for hosting!
