Notting Hill & Ealing High School wins architecture award for its exceptional learning spaces
Our School has been named the 2025 NLA Award winner for Education, with judges praising the school’s new Junior School building as a benchmark for sustainable, modern learning environments in London.
Designed by leading architects Hawkins\Brown, our state-of-the-art building has been celebrated for its innovative, environmentally responsible design and its seamless connection to nature, setting a new standard for educational facilities in Ealing and beyond.
Supported by the Mayor of London, the NLA Awards honour projects that make the capital more sustainable, inclusive, and inspiring. NHEHS’s win places the school among the most forward-thinking developments shaping London today.
A Landmark for Learning in Ealing
Our new Junior School building brings together exceptional design and outstanding educational vision. Dynamic exterior architecture using glazed and hit-and-miss brickwork reflects the character of the surrounding neighbourhood, while inside, natural materials, including cross-laminated timber beams and floors, create warm, calming spaces that support student wellbeing. The fully accessible site includes:
Specialist art, science, music and computing rooms
Additional Sixth Form classrooms
A large multi-use hall
A light-filled library topped with a rooftop lantern
State-of-the-art classrooms equipped for future-focused learning.
The school’s external spaces have been designed to make hands-on learning a daily experience. Highlights include a science garden, dedicated Reception play area, forest school zone and large playgrounds for all year groups.
At the centre of the building is a flexible foyer – a bright, multifunctional space for informal learning, small-group work and social connection.
Kate Bevan, Head of the Junior School at NHEHS said:
“Our new school supports us in delivering the exceptional education our students deserve. They strengthen teaching in core subjects while also enabling a rich programme in sport, music, and the arts. Most importantly, they give our pupils a sense of identity, belonging, and the chance to develop lifelong passions that will enrich them throughout their lives.”
With this award, NHEHS offers some of the best, and most sustainable, education facilities in Ealing, cementing its role as a leading school in the borough and across London.
