"We believe that being part of a community matters, it involves reaching out to volunteer, raising funds for causes we care about, and sharing our spaces to build meaningful relationships. Old Bailey Trip with the Year 13 Psychology Students

By Mr Hegarty,  Head of Psychology

On a cold, damp Tuesday morning in November, we gathered outside the Royal Courts of Justice on the Strand. This iconic, historic building serves as the setting for some of the most significant legal judgments in the country. During our visit, we learned about the types of cases heard there, the history of the legal system, and some fascinating details—such as why barristers and judges wear wigs, why they are generally made using horsehair, and the availability of vegan wig options today.

Afterwards, we explored the secret alleys and courtyards of the nearby Inns of Court, retracing the steps of some of the country’s most renowned legal minds. Following a quick lunch in the shelter of an alleyway in the shadow of St. Paul’s Cathedral, we headed to the Old Bailey, where we had the opportunity to sit in on a live trial.
