One Hundred Girls from 17 Schools Come Together for GDST Sing
By Miss Goodsell, Director of Music
The biennial event, the GDST Sing, was held on Sunday 8th March at the Dukes Hall of the Royal Academy of Music. Over 100 girls from 17 GDST schools came together to sing under the baton of Hilary Campbell, professional choral conductor. Hilary currently works with our music scholars as part of the scholarship programme so it was great to see her in action with a large choir and take inspiration from her leadership style.
The students undertook a series of sectionals and group rehearsals before performing to an audience of family and friends. They particularly enjoyed performing works by Sarah Quartal, Bob Chilcott (who was in attendance) and Shruthi Rajasekar. This final piece was accompanied, if not enhanced, by the Directors of Music of the schools attending performing body percussion.
Bryony said of the event, “Everyone really wanted to be there, and you could really hear this in the sound we produced. It was also special to sing as a group of women on International Women’s Day.”
