The Autumn Concert was a huge success this term, attracting a sell-out audience and featuring 14 of our largest ensembles. The evening opened with the Symphony Orchestra – a 60-strong group of students playing at Grade 5 and above, setting a brilliant tone for the night.

They were followed by the Chamber Choir, our selective ensemble for Years 9–13, who performed two movements from Britten’s Ceremony of Carols. This marked their first outing of the work ahead of their full performance in February, both at school and in Oxford.

Key mentions go to the piano trio of Kat, Cat and Arabella performing an emotive 2nd movement from Brahms piano trio in C op. 87 and to student conductors Georgia and Emma who have been leading Wind Band all year and conducted two pieces with them.

Harmony Choir performed a beautiful rendition of Bob Chilcott’s ‘Can you hear me?’ which incorporates sign language and a rousing ‘You’re welcome’ from Moana and Chamber Orchestra played with great energy performing ‘Rumanian Dances’ by Bartok.

The concert ended with the Year 8 and 9 bands who performed the classics ‘California Dreaming’ and ‘Still into you’ by Paramore.
