Summer Half Term 2024 – Charities Update
Volunteering Day – June 12th
We have been busy planning for our first ever Volunteering Day in June which you can read more about here.
Care 4 Calais Collection
As part of the day we will be visiting the children supported by Care 4 Calais and will be running games and craft activities with them. We will shortly be collecting baby toys and toys for the under 3s for our C4C visits. If you have any of these items to donate, we would be very grateful: stacking cups, DUPLO Lego, larger cars (not Matchbox). Please bring all donations to the atrium from Tuesday 4th June through to Monday 10th June.
Days for Girls Collection
After half term at NHEHS, we will again be marking Menstrual Hygiene day by supporting the ‘Days for Girls’ charity which some of our students are closely involved with. The charity educates girls in LEDCs about hygiene, menstruation, reproduction, self-defence and human trafficking. So far it has reached 2 million girls in 144 different countries. These schoolgirls do not have any access to menstrual kits, have to miss many days off school and suffer such stigma whilst sitting on rags or coconut husks. The West London Days for Girls group is based in Ealing. The members create re-useable hygiene kits for the girls which should last 1 schoolgirl a minimum of 3 years. The team have already provided more than 1000 kits to schoolgirls and have received feedback from these girls on what a difference a kit makes to them.
There are several ways in which the NHEHS community can help:
- Please donate ‘pretty’, bright pants. The pants need to be made of cotton, (not shorts or thong), bright, deep colours and patterns. Most packs have at least one white pair which will be dyed, but please try to find patterns with as little white in them as possible. Black pairs are also fine. Women’s size 4 up to size 10 are welcome or aged 10 to 18 years old. In order to be culturally sensitive, they must not have any images or words on them.
- Donations of 100 % cotton flannels. Please make sure they are not luxury ones otherwise they are too thick to pack and take too long to dry. Again, nice bright colours, not white. Here is an example of appropriate flannels: Amazon and also the value range at Primark
- Travel soaps, like the ones found in hotels
- Members of the group take a large suitcase containing kits to the country they are supporting. By raising funds an extra suitcase could be taken per traveller, meaning more kits can reach more girls. Money can also purchase the appropriate fabric for the hygiene kits. If you would like to financially support the Ealing branch of the charity, you can make a donation on Parentpay from Friday.
- Supporting the partner charity ‘Sanitation 4 Sisters’ set up by one of our Y13 students. They would appreciate donations of disposal sanitary products which will be distributed to women in need in the West London area.
Please bring all donations to the atrium from Tuesday 4th June through to Monday 10th June.
Thank you for your generosity.
Year 7 Charities
Well done to Year 7 who have so far raised over £340 for their chosen year group charity, Cancer Research UK, from their activities which have included two fantastic bake sales, a dance and karaoke competition and a fair.
‘Flag Dress Up Day’
Thank you to everyone who brought in money for Umanandi on the dress up day last week.
Year 10 Enrichment
Some of our Year 10s recently enjoyed reading to pupils at Drayton Green Primary School. Enrichment activities will re-commence after Year 10’s internal tests end in June.
