The Importance of Poetry – GCSE Poetry Conference
As part of our National Poetry Day celebrations, we made this video about the importance of poetry, with a little help from British poet Daljit Nagra and English teachers from NHEHS and Elthorne Park High School.
Daljit spoke at our annual Year 10 GCSE English Poetry Conference today. Year 10 NHEHS pupils were joined by over 150 students from Ealing Fields High School and Elthorne Park High School.
Mr Nagra, whose poems often relate to the experience of Indians born in the UK, read some of his own work before discussing his writing principles in more detail. He led a number of activities to get students writing, which included a poem on the subject of things they like and a concept that could be displayed in a graph, chart or diagram.
A big thank you to Mr Nagra, our English Department and all our visiting students and teachers for such an inspiring conference.
