Two Year 12s Shortlisted for the Learn About Britain Churchill Life and Legacy Prize 2025

By Maya M, Year 12

India and I were lucky enough to be shortlisted for the Learn About Britain Churchill Life and Legacy Prize. As part of this, on the 18th March, we were invited to participate in an educational day.

We met at the Churchill War Rooms and discussed our entries with other students, examining Churchill’s life and complex legacy. We explored his achievements as Prime Minister during WWII as well as his complicated views on race and his actions during the Bengal famine. We were then able to speak with Sir Peter Riddle, who was a political editor for the Financial Times, and he explained his personal experience with several post-war Prime Ministers. He offered a unique perspective on politics and gave us some insights about our current political climate. Next, we then took a quick tour of the War Rooms and then headed off to tour Parliament square. Finally, we attended a reception in the House of Lords, and were given our awards by Lord Blunkett.
