U13 Waterpolo Team Finish 5th in National Finals
Congratulations to our U13 Waterpolo team for finishing 5th in the National Finals at Northampton School for Boys on May 8th!
Having qualified for the finals last term through the heats, our team of Year 7 and Year 8s made a positive start to the finals although they hadn’t enjoyed as much training time together as they would have liked.
2025 is the first year we have qualified in all three age groups for the national finals – U13, U15 and U18. Our U18s and U15s were crowned national champions in their finals. With many girls ‘playing up’ an age category, the future looks bright for our Waterpolo squad for next year too!
U13 Waterpolo Captain Layla R, writes about the finals:
The tournament began with a tense opener against JAGS, where the teams were evenly matched throughout, resulting in a well-earned draw which helped settle our nerves.
Next up was a tough encounter against a strong Bolton side. Despite the team’s best efforts and some impressive defensive work, Bolton edged ahead and won.
Not to be discouraged, the team regrouped and came back firing against Manchester. With energy, focus, and great team chemistry, NHEHS secured a convincing win, earning them 5th place overall in the national competition.
We look forward to training hard together as a team over the next year so we can come back and get closer to that win!
NHEHS coach and swimming teacher Mr Bent said he was delighted that we have “vast numbers who enjoy playing water polo in these age groups and they demonstrate real potential in the sport,” but added that some of the other schools played really well, “such as Bolton, who I take my hat off to for their performance on the day, proving themselves as worthy winners.”
