Wall-to-wall Sunshine for Year 8 Trip to Spain

Our adventurous Year 8 students set off early on 3rd July for Heathrow Airport bound for Ávila & the stunning Sierra de Gredos for their residential Spanish language trip. Leaving a grey and breezy Ealing far behind, we got off to a fantastic start with wall-to-wall sunshine! We arrived at the Gredos Centre where we were staying in the mountains for the first of many activities – all carried out in Spanish.

The Year 8s wasted no time before practising their linguistic skills whilst shopping for souvenirs in the mediaeval walled town of Ávila on the second day of the trip. Students deftly navigated a trail around the town and enjoyed bartering at the local ‘mercadillo’. Afterwards, the group returned to the Gredos Centre where we learned how to make tortillas (which tasted ‘deliciosas’) and had the opportunity of designing their own t-shirts and recording films around the grounds of the centre.

On the third day, we had more activities in Spanish, starting with an outdoor aerobics class. Afterwards, the whole group went on an amazing nature walk, during which we learned about various ecosystems and local species. The landscape was absolutely stunning! We also enjoyed more tortillas and t-shirts, along with team-building games to practise our language skills.

On the final day there was just time to fit in a visit to the incredible Águila caves, before heading back to the UK.

A huge thank you to our teachers for such a fantastic trip – Ms Barbosa, Mrs Alonso and Mr Piesse!

¡Estupendo!
