Welcoming Future Leaders from Ukraine to NHEHS
We were delighted to welcome 14 talented Ukrainian students during the last two weeks as part of the ‘Future Leaders Exchange Programme (FLEX)’. The FLEX programme is run by UKUATogether (UKUAT), a charity fostering secure, economic and growth-orientated connections between the UK and Ukraine. It is part of their current phase of work to help ‘rebuild’ Ukraine through nurturing its future leaders. UKUAT partnered with NHEHS and Alleyn’s School to host 26 students in total across the schools. The Ealing-based students were hosted by local NHEHS families during their visit and ‘buddied-up’ with our Sixth Formers during their stay.
Our guests took part in lessons and workshops across a range of subjects with us, including enterprise and economics, psychology, geography, Mandarin, robotics and science, as well as art and music. On their final day, the Ukrainian students shared their culture and traditions in our senior school assembly and at lunchtime before a farewell tea with staff, pupils and their buddies. During their stay, they also gained an insight into the aviation industry with UKUAT partner Wizz Air, met with organisations such as Google and UCL, and visited Lord’s Cricket Ground, the Tower of London and Parliament.
During the assembly, the students spoke of how much they had enjoyed their two weeks at school, saying “the school has become like a second home to us.” We said goodbye at a lovely afternoon tea and intend to keep in touch and develop more links with UKUA in the future.
