Y11 Aggy Smashes NHEHS Pi Recital Record for Second Year Running!
March 14th was Pi Day, or 3.14 in the United States, which our Maths Department celebrated with a number of Pi-related fun activities.
A big crowd gathered to watch the highlight of the day – the annual Pi Recital – which saw Year 11 Aggy recite Pi to 408 places, annihilating her own NHEHS record from 2022 (242 places)! Congratulations, Aggy!
It was great to see students from Year 7 up to the Sixth Form take on the challenge.
Well done to all, with a special mention to Year 10 Rahel who managed a fantastic 266 places, up on her 2022 total of 207!
We also made our own pipe cleaner version of Buffon’s Needle toestimate Pi. Our estimate came out at 3.44, giving a 9% error, which we were quite pleased with!
Students and staff also made homemade cakes for a Pi baking competition, with nearly £60 raised for SAMI, a UK-based charity that looks to address concerns about access to and quality of mathematics education in Africa.
A big thanks to the Maths Dept and the Maths Reps!
