"We believe that being part of a community matters, it involves reaching out to volunteer, raising funds for causes we care about, and sharing our spaces to build meaningful relationships. These collaborations are mutually enriching and enable our students to create connections beyond the school gates."

Year 10 Dancers Impress at GDST Day of Dance

By Miss Douglas-White, Dance Teacher

On Monday 5th December schools across the GDST Trust attended the annual GDST Day of Dance which again was held at the iconic Base Studio in Vauxhall London. In attendance were seven of our Year 10 dancers Bronwyn O, Jaan W, Jemima C, Juliet I, Kiki VL, Roma S and Sadie M.

There were four different dance style on offer – Contemporary, Lyrical Jazz, Commercial and Musical Theatre, which were taught by some of the industry’s leading professionals.

Everyone was placed into workshops where they were challenged to learn choreography and routines in different dance styles from professional choreographers.  This did push some of the students out of their comfort zones especially having to learn styles they were not confident with.

One of the highlights of the day was the Q & A segment, where students were able to ask the choreographers questions and gain insight into how the industry works and find out how each choreographer gained their credits.

Many of the teachers across the GDST commented on many of the students’ abilities with many teachers and the Choreographer Madeleine Waters mentioning in particular the technical skill and performance value of Bronwyn O and Kiki VL in the in the lyrical Jazz class.

A huge thank you to Kira Bishop from Putney High School who organised another successful day – looking forward to next year already!
