"We believe that being part of a community matters, it involves reaching out to volunteer, raising funds for causes we care about, and sharing our spaces to build meaningful relationships. These collaborations are mutually enriching and enable our students to create connections beyond the school gates."

Year 10’s Employability and Enterprise Careers Day

On Wednesday our Year 10s took part in an ‘employability and enterprise’ careers day led by Bright Futures. It was an activity-based session during which students practiced key work-related learning skills. The workshop began with kinaestic colour-coding activity separated into 4 rounds. In between each round, the teams had to analyse their systems in order to win the final round. The activity illustrates the importance of efficiency in business.

The students then took part in a series of activities designed to give them an insight into the recruitment process. They analysed a job specification and then looked through CVs to select the best candidate. All of the candidates had different skills, experience, and qualifications, and there was a lot of interesting debate about who to choose!

The workshop then moved on to developing communication skills in a business context.  This began with a light-hearted interview skills activity in which each student had an opportunity to demonstrate how their extra-curricular activities can act as evidence for their work-related skill set. The students also practised selling a product using a short sales pitch. This included introducing themselves and their product and then closing the sale with a call to action.

The session finished with a ‘live trading’ activity that gave students a chance to experience entrepreneurship through managing risk and reward. Students made investment choices through analysing data and calculating probability.
