Year 11-13 Academic Scholars Visit the Houses of Parliament
By Mr Guthrie, Academic Tutor
On Wednesday 26th March, Year 11-13 Academic Scholars visited the Houses of Parliament for a tour of the estate and workshops.
A lot was happening in the Commons that day as the Chancellor, Rachel Reeves, was delivering her Spring Statement. The Scholars witnessed her deflecting questions from both her own and the opposition benches and it was good to see the first female Chancellor in history in action. Following this, our pupils toured Westminster Hall and spent time in Central Lobby witnessing the cacophony of conversations and press interviews that followed the Chancellor’s Statement. Our pupils also had the chance to speak to Shadow Chief Secretary to the Treasury, Richard Fuller MP to hear the point of view of the other side first hand!
After the tour, the pupils participated in a workshop putting together their own policies and defending them against their peers. There was some excellent public speaking on show from Hope G, Olivia F-C, Adeline G and Niamh S with Olivia ‘elected’ as our new local MP!
