Year 12 & Year 9 Teams Win Regional Awards at EDT Industrial Cadets Celebration Event

Last week, our Year 12 Gold team and Year 9 Bronze team celebrated completing their STEM projects at the EDT Industrial Cadets Celebration event at Watford Boys Grammar School.

Our Gold team won Best Overall Project for the region and feedback from the panel of assessors was very complimentary. Well done Sophie A, Aisha M, Amelia D, Anj K, Emmi AN and Harinee R.

Our Bronze team won the People’s Choice Award, which was voted for during the celebration day. Congratulations Kyra S, Emily B, Manpreet G, Hannah D, Katerina S and Abi F.

Industrial Cadets is the launch pad for thousands of young people on an accredited pathway towards achieving bright STEM futures, and its patron is King Charles. Year 9s and Year 12s engage with the world of work and create a project on relevant STEM themes, such as sustainability, the environment and the digital world. Student teams are mentored by a relevant company throughout the project, experiencing a number of face-to-face and virtual sessions, and gaining much-needed industry insights and real-life work experience.

The 2023/24 Industrial Cadets projects launched in October. The gold team spent 20 weeks partnered with industry to complete a STEM project, and the bronze team spent 12 weeks.

At the end of the project, the student teams produced a written report and model of their solution and delivered a presentation to a panel of industry experts. Assessment criteria was based on core elements such as technical skills, project management, communication, and sustainability. The projects were showcased, awards presented and student achievements celebrated at the summer celebration event last week.

Once students graduate as Gold or Bronze-level Industrial Cadets, this nationally recognised award can be used as evidence of their experience and complement future applications and career journeys.

Well done to all the girls involved and thank you to Mr Lawrence and all the staff involved in supporting this project.
